Frequently asked questions
Can I convert a manual roof access to electric later?
No, the frames and configurations are specifically tailored in our workshop to the chosen mechanism (gas springs or motors). Be sure of your choice before ordering.
Is the roof access delivered complete?
Yes. Both systems (electric and manual) are so-called "quick-installation" systems. They are pre-assembled in the factory and delivered as one set, including the curb, the PVC frame, and the opening mechanism.
When should I choose manual roof access?
A manual roof access is ideal when the opening is easily accessible and you can open the skylight by hand. The manual version is equipped with two gas springs that assist with opening, and a lockable handle to keep the skylight closed. The skylight opens up to approximately 75° and is suitable for roof access and ventilation.
When is it better to choose electric roof access?
Electric roof access is the best choice when extra ease of use is important, when the skylight is larger or heavier, or when the manual opening force becomes too high. Skylux recommends electric roof access from an opening force of 12 kg, because manual opening is then considered heavy.
Can roof access also be used for ventilation?
Yes. Both manual and electric roof access are suitable for roof access and ventilation. The electric version in particular is interesting when you want to regulate the opening precisely, because the opening angle is continuously adjustable up to a maximum of 90°.
Can you step on the glass of the roof access?
No. The installation instructions clearly state that it is forbidden to step on the glass. A roof access is intended to provide access through the opening, not to be used as a walkable glass surface.
Can the roof access remain open in strong winds?
Caution is required in strong winds. For both manual and electric roof access, it is stated that the hatch can blow shut in strong wind. Keep the skylight closed when wind speeds exceed 40 km/h.
Why choose a Skylux roof access?
With a Skylux roof access, you choose a pre-assembled, high-quality solution that combines daylight, ventilation and safe access to the flat roof. You can choose from manual or electric operation, different curbs, skylights and glass solutions, so the roof access can be tailored to your project.
