Automatic comfort, without a single cable

More shade, more ventilation and greater ease of use, fully powered by solar energy. The solar system combines a powerful solar panel with an integrated battery, so your window and blind continue to operate autonomously. A smart solution for both renovation and new build.

Elektrisch Screen 150x150 cm - Skylux

The principle

From sunlight to fresh air. Completely automatic.

A compact solar panel on the outside charges a hidden battery. That battery opens your window, extends your blind and keeps everything running for months without a single metre of cabling.

Frequently asked questions about solar

How does a solar-powered flat roof window work?

A compact solar panel on the outside of the flat roof window charges a built-in battery. That battery powers the spindle motor that opens your window and the screen that extends. Everything works wirelessly, without connection to the power grid. You control the whole system with the remote control or via your smartphone.

Do I need electricity or cables for a solar flat roof window?

No. The Solar version runs entirely on solar energy and does not require a power supply. No cutting or demolition work, cable duct or socket is required. This makes the system ideal for both new build and renovation, where wiring is often difficult.

Does a solar-powered flat roof window also work in winter?

Yes. Thanks to the panel’s high output, around 2 hours of direct sunlight per day is sufficient, even during the short winter days. It is important that the panel is not permanently in the shade. On roofs with a strong north-facing pitch, the winter sun may sometimes not reach the panel; therefore orient the panel as much as possible towards the south.

How long does the system keep working without sun?

A fully charged battery easily bridges a grey period: the system continues to operate for up to around 4 weeks without direct sunlight. You can monitor the battery status via the app or via the LED indicator on the underside of the screen. If ever needed, you can recharge the battery from the inside via the USB-C connection.

Where is the best place to install the solar panel?

Orient the panel as much as possible towards the south to south-east and set the tilt angle to approximately 45° relative to horizontal. Avoid shaded areas caused by, for example, the roof window itself or nearby obstacles. The panel is tiltable from 0° to 75°, so you can adapt it to your roof pitch.

Can I retrofit a solar screen?

Yes. The solar screen can be retrofitted into the daylight opening of an existing Skylux curb or renovation frame. You install the screen from the inside using clips; the solar panel is installed from the outside, without dismantling the flat roof window. This allows you to upgrade an existing dome or flat roof window with sunshade without demolition work.

Which flat roof windows and domes are compatible with Solar control?

Solar control comes as standard on the opening iWindow2 and iWindow3. In addition, the separate solar screen is compatible with fixed and opening flat roof windows, glass hybrid domes, the Vitria and plastic domes. Please note: the solar screen cannot be combined with roof access, SHEV systems or a fall-through protection grille.

What types of solar-powered screens are available?

When purchasing, you can choose from three screen fabrics: sunshade against heat and bright light, blackout for a dark room, or insect screen for fresh air without unwanted guests. All three are elegantly integrated into the curb and solar-powered.

How do I operate my solar Skylux flat roof window?

With the included remote control, you can manage ventilation, screen and LED lighting. In addition, the system is Matter-compatible via DuoControl, allowing it to integrate seamlessly into existing smart home apps such as Apple Home and Google Home. So you can just as easily operate your flat roof window with your smartphone or tablet.

Is a solar-powered flat roof window safe in windy conditions?

Yes. When you open the window for ventilation, the sunshade or blackout automatically opens as a protective measure against wind load and negative pressure. In strong winds, it is best to close the ventilation completely. This keeps your daylight solution safe in all weather conditions.

What does a flat roof window or solar screen cost?

The price depends on the dimensions, the type of glazing and the selected screen. You can find all sizes and current prices directly in our webshop, ready for installation and available from our own stock. For tailored advice, a Skylux dealer in your region will be happy to assist you.

The values stated are guideline values from the Skylux technical dossiers and may vary depending on dimensions, orientation and surroundings. Visible water stagnation on flat glass is excluded from the warranty. Please consult the technical dossier for the full specifications.
